When my children were babies and toddlers, I spent a lot of time on the floor; I loved the carpet in my sons room. We spent hours playing, building, rolling around, I was determined to see the world from their perspective. (Often looking for things that could potentially fall or things that could hurt them).Â
What I didn’t realise then was that I was learning one of the greatest lessons in leadership. To really connect, you sometimes have to change your position to change your perspective.Â
Leadership isn’t about looking down from above; it’s about kneeling beside someone long enough to see what they see their challenges, their ideas, their world (Maybe even looking for things that can fall and hurt them)
When we’re willing to shift our point of view, not in status but in perspective, understanding grows and so does our ability to truly connect.Â
