To Every Brave Soul Who Took the Leap

No one ever said this journey would be easy.
And over the years, some of our comrades have quietly stepped away — gone home, moved on, or simply couldn’t hold on.
But to you, the ones still standing, still trying, still building —
Well done.

It’s been one hell of a ride, hasn’t it?

You’ve laughed — belly-laughed at things that only make sense to those of us who’ve been through it.
You’ve cried — alone, on the phone, in the dark, wishing just for one more day back home.
You’ve stared in awe at new customs, learned to appreciate small things like sunshine, and discovered entire aisles of groceries you still don’t fully understand.

Some of you are still figuring out the language —
still giggling at Dutch words that sound more like sound effects than speech. But we all share one thing in common: No matter why you came here — you gave up a lot. But you’ve built even more. Maybe it’s a house. Maybe it’s friends who feel like family. Maybe it’s just the courage to go one more day. But you’ve made something here. You’ve grown.

We all started like little babies in this country — clumsy, unsure, overwhelmed. But with each milestone, you got stronger. Each small win made you braver. And whether you realise it or not, you're becoming a little more Dutch every day.

You made it. Whether alone or with family — you made it. And sure, you’ve still got a million more milestones ahead, but now… you know it gets easier. We all have our down days — swearing at the system, yelling at the kids, tired of being the maid, gardener, chef, chauffeur all in one. It’s normal. But this page — this space — is for you. For every one of you who packed up your life and walked into the unknown. Some of you are still in the "green phase" — new, raw, adjusting. Others now call this place home.

I just want to say:
I see you. I'm proud of you. You did it. You made it. You’re surviving — and yes, you’re allowed to smile about it.

Want to Feel a Little More Connected?

Take a scroll through our shared stories, laugh with us, cry a little, or just nod along as you see photos of the bravest of the brave — those who made the big move. Immigration photos carry a weight words often can’t. And to everyone who’s shared theirs with me — thank you. Your stories are emotional, raw, and full of life. I hope that by sharing these images, we all remember: We might have left behind the world we once knew, but we stepped into something powerful — a fresh start, and a community that gets it. If you haven’t shared your photos yet — please do.
