So you walk into a shop with fear in your eyes seeing Rands when you look at Euros. You have no idea what the dutch call Bisto and the monkey wrench needed for a pipe is actually called an aapsleutel... Maar dis ok... You will get there. You will look back and also share stories of those horrific moments when translations went wrong. We have put together a list of Dutch stores. Jy weet mos, soos n saffa daar aan dink.

"Want elke tuin huisie is altyd n Wendy!"

Not all shops are here, These are just some of the more bigger brands. If you have something you would like to share please let me know.

kruidvat-logo.jpeg

Kruidvat

Clicks/ Dischem shop

Kruidvat is very similar to that of Clicks and Dischem. The biggest difference is the pharmacy dispensary which Kruidvat does not have. But from beauty, to cosmetics to some home stuff/ toys and baby stuff including over the counter meds, Kruidvat is where you can get most your goodies.

etos.png

Etos

Clicks/ Dischem shop

Etos is very similar to that of Clicks and Dischem. The biggest difference is the pharmacy dispensary which Etos does not have. But from beauty, to cosmetics and baby stuff including over the counter meds, Etos is where you can get most your goodies.

zeeman.png

Zeeman

Pep stores shop

I would classify Zeeman as a Pep maybe Ackermans type shop. They have very affordable clothing and some home stuff.

H&M.png

H&M

Decent Priced Edgars clothing store

H&M is a decent priced clothing store and has a very nice web-store as well. Im not sure if there is still a H&M in SA, but its the same. You can also find things for your home, cosmetics etc. â€‹â€‹â€‹

C&A.png

C&A

NOT CNA for stationary but clothes

C&A is very similar to H&M. Decent priced with good quality clothing as well as a loyalty program card. I don't recall them doing home things but they are very much focused on clothing for woman, men, children and babies.

Media Markt sells everything from computers, to hairdryers, airfryers, tv's, you name it. Big and small appliances,  Even the PS5 your husband added to his Christmas list.

action.png

Action

Budget everything store

I had no idea how to classify this one. Need a toaster, pair of socks or a children's colouring book you can get it at Action. They are very well priced and personally a bit dangerous, you will need that 1 thing and go home with 10. It's like the bargain bins at Aldi and Lid.

IKEA.jpg

IKEA

...

IKEA is the go-to store for flat-pack, build-it-yourself furniture.
From beds and linen to crockery and outdoor sets, they’ve got just about everything — and usually at a good price. Just keep in mind: you’ll likely need to assemble it yourself, and in many Dutch homes, furniture is built in the room because of narrow staircases. IKEA also has a handy online design tool, and while the warehouse can seem like a maze, there’s always someone around to help.

MiroCenter-DieGrenze-logo.png

Die grenze

Budget shop

Die grenze does alot of cheap goods. From sweets, to perfumes to cleaning products. Some of their brands comes from different countries which makes them cheap. While others are a few months from expiry. With the price you pay for a bottle of shower gel I can guarantee you wont find the same brand cheaper anywhere else.

 -Marizel-

For me its more of, what i can find, where... Wibra has great kids clothing, Zeeman has cute things for girls age 4-7. Primark has basically everything and the quality is better than C&A, which i find is more expensive than Primark. TKmaxx has awesome stuff especially for kids, like Edgars to me had mostly brand names, at TKMaxx they sell kids nike/reebok etc sets for 9-16 euro a set (if brands are what you need). If you have geduld and a eye for sorting through stuff, kringloop is amazing, even Vinted. Online at H&M is also great, the quality is H&M like we all know it and the online availability is huge compared to the two tiny shops in eindhoven for example. Action is good for underwear especially kids with the themes like mickey, paw patrol etc. What worked for me was to go look at all the stores and try them all, now i know what i can get where, what lasts and what wont easily shrink in a wash or dry cycle.
